At the heart of Le Haut Chitelet High Altitude Garden, a vast peaty area is totally protected. At the end of its life, this peat bog was on the way to drying up (accentuated by former drainage operations, the construction of military trenches and natural colonization by shrubs and trees (willow, birch, spruce, etc.).
In 2012, the Lorraine Countryside Conservation Authority carried out restoration works to counter this evolution. A number of drainage canals have been blocked to retain water.
The peat bog is open to the public. A walkway enables visitors to explore the ecosystem.
